Home Stay
The number of tourists visiting India has increased manifold during the past few decades. Especially after the tourism attraction programs of Incredible India, India is witnessing a large influx of tourists. Even our countrymen have also started coming out of their shells and visiting every nook and corner of the State. Tourism has emerged as one of the few economic alternatives to develop the economy of Kerala State. Kerala is the fastest growing tourist destination in the country with over 4 lakhs international tourists and 60 lakhs domestic tourists arrival per year. Many of the tourist locations in Kerala are “Must See” locations mentioned in acclaimed tourist magazines and references. For developing a hotel/resort, the average investment required per room will be high when compared to the investments made per room under Home Stay accommodation scheme that too without compromising on the quality. Hence, there are chances for earning income and sustained employment.
Not only the foreign tourists even many local tourists also prefer to stay in the comfort of a homely environment where one is not bounded by the so called protocols and freely mingle with the local people, enjoy homemade food and relax in the cozy comfort of a house; away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. The desire for such holidays has given rise to a new concept; Home Stay i.e. a home away from home. It has enabled tourists enjoy their stay in these Home Stays and a scope to learn local culture and traditions. One can clearly say that these Home Stays definitely offer a home away from home feel.
Location
The home Stay Unit is proposed to be located at Kothaparambu, which is two kilometers away from Kodungallur town, in Thrissur district. Kodungallur was the ancient capital of Kerala and the cradle of different religions. The famous temples, churches and mosques of Kodungallur are visited by many Indian and international tourists. The site is just 25 Kms away from the Nedumbassery International Airport. The site is on the bank of the Azhikode estuary where boating is possible. One plank built boat will be purchased for this purpose. The scenic beauty of this estuary can attract the tourists.
The project will be implemented with the help of the Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala. Marketing will be done by developing tie-up with Disrtict Tourism Promotion Council, tour and travelling agents.
In this project, there will be two bed rooms, each of which with an area of 16 M2, in addition to the sit-out and kitchen. This unit will be under the direct supervision of the promoter. It is assumed that each room will be occupied by tourists for 175 days/year. A rent of Rs.1500 can be charged per day. Home made food also will be served to them on payment. Facilities will be also provided for catching fishes by hook and line (Angling), an important hobby and sports event of foreign tourists.
